<\/strong>It is assumed that the student has completed the AIX System Administration 1 course or has equivalent experience managing an AIX system.\u00a0<\/p>

Course Description:
<\/b>This is the second course in administering an AIX 7.1 system and teaches Intermediate to Advanced topics in AIX system administration. The students will learn to manage a server in a partitioned environment. The operating system will be IBM AIX 7.1 and the student will have access to an IBM Power System lab environment managed by a Hardware Management Console.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:<\/strong><\/p>

  • Perform system startup and shutdown in a partitioned environment<\/li>
  • Discuss and use system management tools such as System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) and IBM Systems Director console for AIX<\/li>
  • Manage physical and logical devices<\/li>
  • Discuss the purpose of the logical volume manager<\/li>
  • Perform logical volume and file system management<\/li>
  • Create and manage user and group accounts<\/li>
  • Perform and restore system backups<\/li>
  • Utilize administrative subsystems, including cron to schedule system tasks, and security to implement customized access of files and directories<\/li>
  • Configure TCP\/IP networking<\/li>
  • Define and run basic Workload Partitions (WPAR)<\/li>
  • Understand Partitioning concepts on Power-based systems<\/li>
  • Configure and manage the Hardware Management Console (HMC)<\/li>
  • Understand how to associate and allocate resources to partitions<\/li>
  • Understand physical and AIX location codes and how they relate to physical hardware components<\/li>
  • Use the HMC to backup and restore partition data<\/li>
